1Defective ProductJul 26, 2010
Purchased Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition from an individual via Amazon.com. It was in the original box. Unfortunately the disk was defective as determined by a certified technician. E-mail to seller received no response. Probably won't buy similar products from individuals again.

I needed a simple, problem free OS for a grade schoolers PC and that's exactly what I got, works great.

5Worked perfect for replacing XP on a computer preinstalled with VistaMar 14, 2010
My father who has a Dell laptop with Windows Vista on it, hated Vista and wanted Windows XP. It was a simple process to remove Vista and install XP. This is not an upgrade. This is the full version.

What people need to know and understand is what you are buying when you buy a builders system. You can not fail to do research on what you are buying and then be unhappy when it was not what you wanted and give it a poor rating. Then you are not rating the item, but your failure to have any idea what you just bought. The item is exactly what it says it is, Windows XP Operating System. It is not Windows XP Operating System AND all the drivers and programs you want and need. You will not have Microsoft Office, you will not even have access to the Internet because there are no drivers for your hardware installed yet. You will have to install it all yourself.

You have to know how to install drivers yourself. Google, will be your best friend.

After you have formatted any previous operating systems and installed this XP system over it, you will have a BLANK computer. You will not have any programs at all. You will not have any drivers for wireless cards, video cards, sound cards, chipsets, etc. You will have to go to the Internet on another computer, locate the correct (free) drivers for your hardware and then download the installation files onto something (CD-Rom, Flash drive, etc). Then plug them into your computer and extract/install them. Getting the Internet working first may work best so you can do the rest of the driver downloads from the computer you are working on.

You will have to do this same thing with all the graphics drivers and sound drivers. Until then, your computer screen will look funny and you will have no sound.

This version of Windows XP does not know what kind of mouse you are using, or what kind of sound card you have. You will have to find the drivers for all your computers hardware and download them to the computer. These drivers are available for free all over the Internet from the companies that manufactured them.

This item is exactly what it says it is and I have bought, installed and used it flawlessly. As long as you know how to install drivers, you should not have a problem with this.

Also I wanted to add....
It makes no sense that so many people made reviews on here about how they hate Windows and everyone should move to Mac or Linux. People should review the product for what it is. Not come on here and just post bad ratings because Windows is something they don't like. People trust reviews on here and by coming here and just giving something a 1 star, because you think something else is better, in no way helps anyone know anything about this Windows XP builders system. It would be like if Windows users gave negative reviews to Macs on Amazon just because it is not Windows. Grow up.

If you don't like Windows, don't buy it.
If you don't know what your buying, don't buy it.

If you want a fully functioning, LICENSED, OEM, version of Windows XP that has the product key right on the package....buy it.

1Don't go with expensive Windows and MacJan 14, 2010
Seriously. Linux and replace Mac in every way. And Linux is actually better then Mac in every way.
I would only recommend going with windows if you have an application that is DirectX.
If not, Linux is the free and stable way to go!

LINUX!

Great product; used in a virtual machine running on a 15 inch Mac Book Pro. Updates and patches loaded no problem. Not much to say...it's Windows.
