 Good Idea--WAY too hard to set, and too expensiveJun 14, 2010
I like the idea behind this timer, and thought it would be very helpful in getting kids off to school on time. So I took the plunge and spent almost 30$ on it. We no longer use it, though, because setting it requires pushing various buttons or cominations of buttons (literally) 25-30 times to make the thing time a 20 minute interval.
If you buy it, don't lose the manual! (also--don't spring for the adapter. Take one from some other toy or from your old baby moniter like I did. It works fine.)
 Broke within two months...May 24, 2010
Unexpectedly and without explanation, broke within the first couple months. My son has Asperger's Syndrome and I bought this as a tool to help him in getting ready for school/bed/taking turns. It worked well for a bit and he actually really liked it because he could watch the lights (he never liked the sounds). I'm not about to buy another one to replace it though and I'm frustrated at the poor quality. I do not recommend this product, I feel it's a waste of money.

Failed in less than 60 daysMay 13, 2010
The timer totally failed after less than 60 days. Unfortunately, the seller would not allow a direct return. They put me back on Amazon. Amazon's return policy on this item is 30 days. The timer worked well when it worked. But, I guess I'm stuck with buying a replacement.

We use this to keep our four-year-old on task when eating. After having her draw out meals for hours, we thought maybe a visual timer might help her stay focused on the task at hand.
The timer comes with a 30-minute program set into its memory, but if you want to program your own individual countdown, get ready to push a lot of buttons. It was a pain to set up, as several reviewers have noted. My husband and I are both self-proclaimed geeks (my husband is a software engineer, to boot) and we still had to squint over the instructions to figure it out. It's NOT intuitive at all.
And one huge downside is that it will only hold *one* custom countdown program in addition to the 30 minute one that comes preprogrammed in. So if you want to use this timer to countdown a bunch of different tasks that require different times, it's going to be a constant process to reset the timer every time you want to use it. It would be nice if it could save three programs, that way we could use it for different things, but we just don't have the patience to reprogram it.
Once we got it set up, it worked perfectly, and now meals are pretty stress-free. A push of the button and we're all set. My daughter loves to beat the clock and finish her meal before the red light comes on.

Our four year old is actually excited about using this thing- and we successfully used it once. Now the sound stopped working, I might have just gotten a lemon. I sent a note to the manufacturer- I"ll update my review if I get positive results from that.
What I did want to share with everyone is that this simple little device couldn't be less user friendly. There should be a simple start/ stop button (I kinda thought that was it on top, but no). Instead in order to use it each time, you have to go through a series of steps between the menu, enter, and start button. The only thing that might be good for is if you don't want your kid to start and stop it themselves, but that should be a choice. Also- programming this thing is a pain because it's cheaply built- it skips steps when you go through the process as if you pressed something by accident and you have to figure out how to go back a step yourself. I also wish there were more programable options when it goes into the red/ final phase- for example we should be able to have it making other sounds or increase the length of the blinking light to let the kids know time is about to run out. Or a count down would be great- also there is no sound for when time is actually up- it just can say "time's up" when it goes into the last phase.
